6 NYC Cocktail Bars With Modern Vibes
One of the greatest aspects of New York City is that you’re never far from a good time because what NYC lacks in space, it makes up for in jam-packed fun. Among the many amazing things to do in NYC, there’s a seemingly endless number of incredible restaurants and bars to experience all across the city.
In particular, NYC cocktail bars are some of the best in the world. Not only do these spots offer delicious drinks, but you can also find a wide variety of nightlife with an unmatched atmosphere. From sky bars with breathtaking views to underground bars with sassy, modern decor, there are so many cool NYC cocktail bars that we thought we’d narrow it down to our favorites.
As the name implies, this unique cocktail bar can be found “under” the famous Korean steakhouse Cote in the Flatiron District of Manhattan. This submerged, speakeasy-style spot opened in October 2018 and has quickly become one of the go-to spots for locals in NYC. The drinks tend to have a modern, tropical feel, always with a top-notch presentation. But the real highlight is the wall of vegetation living behind glass partitions, which gives Undercote a bit of a dystopian feel. The Modern Agent recommends sitting by the bar to get the full experience the expert mixologists have to offer.
This recently opened cocktail bar in Midtown Manhattan is part of the French-Japanese restaurant Shun and has a chic, upscale look. The stunning lounge feels both modern while also harkening back to New York City’s Art Deco past, an architectural style made famous by buildings such as The Empire State Building and The Chrysler Building. Like the food at the restaurant, the cocktail bar has drinks inspired by French and Japanese culture, and its alluring atmosphere makes it one of the best cocktail bars in NYC for a date night.
The blossoming Hudson Yards neighborhood on the west side of Manhattan has an exciting new addition with the opening of Cedric’s at The Shed in April 2019. This bar from Danny Meyers’ famous, well-respected Union Square Hospitality Group resides in the lobby of The Shed, a new modern events space. Cedric’s tends to get busy and touristy during events at The Shed, but on off days its beautiful open space gives off a subtle warmth and makes it one of the best NYC cocktail bars for after-work drinks.
Another great nightlife spot in the Hudson Yards/Hell’s Kitchen area is the wine and cocktail bar Ada’s Place, which is part of the hip new restaurant Legacy Records. The interior of Ada’s place has a swanky, wood-heavy look, but the real gem is the tropical backyard, where you can sip fruit-forward, sophisticated cocktails outdoors. Take some time to also appreciate the unique mural behind the bar.
The best way to take in all that NYC has to offer is by visiting a rooftop bar or a sky bar like Bar SixtyFive. The cocktail lounge, part of the famous Rainbow Room restaurant high above Midtown Manhattan in 30 Rockefeller Center, also home to The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, has some of the most spectacular views in the city, and you can even sip drinks outside on the highest terrace bar in NYC. Bar SixtyFive is one of the best cocktail bars in NYC for a special date night or if you’re looking to celebrate. We recommend you dress to impress at this upscale spot.
Whiskey aficionados and music lovers are in for a treat at the Flatiron Room. This live jazz spot is reminiscent of a bygone era, with classy modern interiors, an endless variety of specialty cocktails and a light food menu. You can choose from over 1,000 whiskey varieties, as well as many other spirits if you’d prefer a traditional cocktail. The Modern Agent recommends booking in advance and requesting a seat by the stage for an up-close-and-personal experience with the musicians.
We’d love to hear about your favorite modern cocktail bars in the city. Please let us know, we are always on the lookout for the next swanky spot to quench our thirst.
